A seasonal business website in Southwest Florida works best when it changes with the calendar: new offers before the busy months, accurate hours in your Google Business Profile, a simple month-by-month content plan, and email sent ahead of demand. Plan from your own numbers first, then use local visitor data as a guide.

Key takeaways

  • Lee County's tracked visitor counts were spread across all four quarters of 2025, so check your own traffic before assuming one "season."
  • Visitors and seasonal residents are different groups; most public tourism data counts visitors only.
  • Update hours, offers and your Google Business Profile before demand moves, not after.
  • A one-page, 12-month calendar is enough: one offer, one post and one email per month.
  • Off-season messaging should speak to year-round locals, not apologize for a quiet month.

How seasonal is Southwest Florida, really?

Many owners say "season" and mean winter. The numbers are more nuanced. The Lee County visitor study for calendar year 2025, prepared for Visit Fort Myers by Downs & St. Germain Research, counted 3,320,700 visitors, up 3.8 percent from 2024. By quarter, it counted 782,000 in January to March, 862,700 in April to June, 762,800 in July to September, and 913,200 in October to December.

That is a fairly even spread. October to December was the largest quarter, at roughly 27 percent of the year, and July to September was the smallest, at roughly 23 percent. Those percentages are our own arithmetic from the published quarterly figures.

Two cautions. First, the study counts visitors. Seasonal residents who spend the winter in a second home are a separate group, and we did not find a comparable public count for them, so typically you will need your own data to see their effect. Second, one year is one year; the study itself lists hurricane-related reasons for visiting in both 2024 and 2025, so patterns may not repeat.

What does your own business data say?

Your busiest months depend on what you sell. A landscaper, a spa, a restaurant and an accountant will each peak at different times. Before you plan anything, look at the last 12 to 24 months of your own records.

  1. List monthly revenue or bookings for the last two years from your invoices or booking system.
  2. Mark the three highest and three lowest months.
  3. Open your Google Business Profile performance numbers and note which months calls and direction requests rose.
  4. Check your website analytics for the months when traffic from search climbed.
  5. Write one sentence per slow month: who still buys then, and what do they need?

If you have no history yet, use "typically" assumptions as a starting point, then correct them after your first full year. Our local SEO checklist for Fort Myers covers the profile and website basics that make this tracking useful.

What should a 12-month calendar look like?

Keep it small enough that you will actually follow it. The table below is a template, not a prediction: shift each row to match your own busy and quiet months.

Period Website Google Business Profile Email
Four to six weeks before your busy months Publish the seasonal offer page; refresh prices and photos Check hours, add a post about the offer Announce the offer to past customers
During your busy months Keep booking or contact options at the top of every page Respond to reviews quickly; update special hours for holidays Short reminder with open slots
As the busy months wind down Add a thank-you and a rebooking prompt Ask satisfied customers for reviews "See you next season" or maintenance offer
Quiet months Publish guides, update service pages, fix slow pages Post local, year-round content One useful tip per month for locals

The quiet months are the best time for work that does not need traffic to pay off: rewriting service pages, improving page speed, and building the content you will want live when demand returns.

How do you keep Google Business Profile hours accurate?

Google's help pages say that to change hours for holidays or other temporary periods, you set special hours. That is the tool to use for a closed week, a shortened summer schedule or a hurricane closure, because it keeps your regular hours intact and returns to them automatically.

  • Set special hours for every holiday and planned closure at least a few weeks ahead.
  • If you close for a storm, update the profile and your website banner the same day.
  • Make sure the phone number and booking link on the profile match the website.
  • Review the profile at the start of each busy period, not only when something breaks.

If nobody on your team has time for this, our monthly Google Business Profile management is a $104 monthly service that covers regular profile upkeep. Our Google Business Profile optimization checklist lists what to check yourself.

When should seasonal emails and offers go out?

Send earlier than feels natural. People who split the year between Florida and another state, and people who plan a winter visit, typically decide before they arrive. A message sent after they are already here competes with everything else they are doing.

A simple rhythm works for most small businesses:

  1. One email four to six weeks before your busy months, with the offer and a clear booking button.
  2. One reminder two weeks later for people who did not click.
  3. One short note during the busy months about open dates.
  4. One thank-you with a review request after the visit or job.

Only email people who agreed to hear from you, and keep an unsubscribe link in every message. If you do not have email and text set up yet, our Klaviyo Email & SMS Setup is $262 and connects your signup forms to your website.

What should you say in the off-season?

Do not apologize for a quiet month. Talk to the customers who are still here: year-round residents, local businesses and people planning ahead. Practical angles that tend to work:

  • Maintenance, repairs or treatments that benefit from a slower schedule.
  • Pre-booking offers for the next busy period.
  • Local guides, such as what to prepare before hurricane season or before guests arrive.
  • Gift or package options that do not depend on a visit date.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, so a preparedness page or closure banner is a reasonable part of a Southwest Florida plan. If you serve Naples or Collier County, our Naples web design page shows how we approach local sites there.

Frequently asked questions

When is snowbird season in Southwest Florida?

There is no single official start and end date. Seasonal residents typically arrive in the fall and leave in the spring, but it varies by person and by year. Tourism data adds a wrinkle: Lee County's 2025 visitor study counted its largest quarter from October to December and its smallest from July to September. Check your own bookings, calls and website traffic by month to find the dates that matter for your business.

How far ahead should I update my website for the busy season?

Typically four to six weeks before your busy months begin. That gives search engines time to find new pages, gives past customers time to plan, and leaves room to fix problems. Publish the seasonal offer page first, then update your Google Business Profile hours, then send the email. Treat the dates as a starting point and adjust after one full year of your own data.

How do I show seasonal or holiday hours on Google?

Google's help pages explain that you set special hours in your Google Business Profile to change hours for holidays or other temporary periods. Add them ahead of time so customers see the right hours in Search and Maps, and keep the same hours on your website. If you close unexpectedly, update both places the same day.

Do I need a different website for the off-season?

No. Keep one website and change the offers, banners and featured services as the calendar moves. A separate site splits your reputation and search visibility. Use the quiet months to improve the pages you already have, such as service pages, booking flow and page speed, so the site is ready when demand returns.

What if my customers are year-round locals?

Then your calendar may be driven by holidays, school schedules, weather or your own trade rather than tourism. Look at your own bookings and revenue by month and plan around those. Year-round businesses still benefit from accurate special hours, a monthly email and one useful post a month, but the timing should follow your customers, not a regional label.

Can you build a seasonal calendar into my website?

We can build the website and set up the tools, and a human reviews every page. Writing and sending your monthly offers, posts and emails is ongoing work. Some owners handle it themselves with a simple calendar, and some add a monthly service. Full product setup, cart configuration and marketplace connections are extra, priced by scope.
